This is the movie poster for the film 'The Departed.' I have previously analysed this for my movie trailer, http://lewisglennonmediaa2.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/research-into-similar-products.html, so felt it was smart to analyse the poster to help me with my ancillary product as I know the film is similar to my film. This poster again does some of the things previous posters I have looked at does, but they are still effective. For example they have all of the main characters in the poster making the audience wonder what role they will all play, but they are all dressed very differently with DiCaprio dressed casually and the other man dressed in a suit while you cannot really see what the other man is wearing other than just a top. This will interest the audience as they will wonder who DiCaprio is after or whether they are all together. However as the guy in the back is looking down on him it hints that maybe he is the antagonist or is his 'idol' so to speak. I could do this with Castro and Poezzi, because there dress styles will reflect their 'styles' with Poezzi slick, and old school, while Castro's is more casual and quick. Another thing I like about this poster is the line used, 'Cops or criminals, when you are facing a loaded gun they are all the same.' This reflects that maybe the police are similar to criminals and maybe I could touch on this to hint that Poezzi's criminal ways are justified. However this would not tie in with my trailer so if I do use writing I will probably make it link to my trailer and need to give it some thinking, however I think the writing is a really effective touch and I will defintley consider putting it into my poster. The only thing that I do not like about this poster is the background as I feel it does not look professional enough, so when it comes to my background I will need to think carefully over what is the best fit and what I can do as it has to be original photography. Overall I feel that I am gathering some key things to include in my movie poster, which is good because I will start focusing on finishing my trailer now, but I know that when I am finished I will have strong resources to go back to when constructing my poster.
