Just like I did with a previous post, http://lewisglennonmediaa2.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/blog-post_20.html, I have recently began looking at certain trailers to help me get a flavor of editing techniques. Here I have decided to look at the 1997 films Jackie Brown. Unlike Scarface this trailer has more fast paced editing in it. However like Scarface is also has a lot of cut aways which is a simple but effective technique to use as it shows the audiences different parts in the film without it being to long, so they don't bore them. Also 31 seconds into the trailer there is a swipe across for the directors name. This is a good effect as it makes the title look better due to it looking good, however I will not be using this effect in my trailer as it is quite an old effect, as shown by the film coming out in 1997, so I don't think it will suit the seriousness of my film trailer.
Also as shown by this gif the trailer starts off with fast paced editing with about 8 to 9 shots being fitted into one segment which is about 3 seconds long. This is an effective technique as it implies to the audience that the film will be fast and action packed. It also gives away the main points of the film, with all the main characters in it, money which is the goal, as well as violence by the guns and romance by two characters kissing. This shows the audience what will feature in the film but happens at such a fast pace that it does not spoil it. This effect would be very hard to pull of but when editing my trailer I will try it because I feel if i pull it off it will look very effective.
Overall this trailer has once again shown me some very effective editing techniques that I could possibly use in my trailer. Hopefully I can use these techniques correctly so my trailer comes out as effective as I can make it!
